THE BOARD AND STAFF AT ROXBOROUGH PARK WISH EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND LOOK FORWARD TO A BRIGHT AND PRODUCTIVE 2010!!!

FROM THE PRESIDENT—GREG LIPTAK

Mark your calendars for an important Special Meeting of the Roxborough Park Foundation Board on Thursday, January 14th at 7 PM at The Community Center. The meeting will focus on the development of information on traffic and traffic safety issues in our community.
You will recall that two Member surveys were conducted in 2009. In both surveys, a majority indicated an interest in continued work by the HOA in speed monitoring and other traffic safety issues.

For several months our GM, Trudy Peterson, and our Compliance Coordinator, Mark Gordier, as well as members of the Board, have developed and contacted a series of experts on this issue. At the Special Meeting, representatives from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and its Traffic Division will present information on the role of the County in subdivisions where the roads are private. A representative from the Foundation’s law firm will outline the rights and obligations of Homeowner Associations on traffic issues under Colorado law. Tactics for slowing traffic--speed humps and speed tables—will be discussed along with potential future approaches. Information on the traffic program of the Castle Pines Village subdivision will be presented along with suggestions from various security companies active in the area.

Members who are unable to attend the meeting can provide their thoughts on this issue to the Foundation’s GM, Trudy Peterson, at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Your Foundation Staff and Board believe this fact-finding session will be beneficial to our community. I strongly urge you to attend this important meeting.

Call for Artist's—The Art Committee’s first Roxborough Park Community Center Art Exhibition has been approved by the Board of Directors. We are calling for Photographers from the community whose work can illustrate our opening theme of "Lights of Winter". Do you have a fantastic winter photograph that shows our beautiful area blanketed in snow, illuminated by the moon, or softly draped in clouds...this time of year yields distinctly different views than what we see in the summer months. Please submit up to 4 pieces to The Art Committee to help us kick off our unveiling of our first exhibit...by February 5, 2010. Pieces must be matted, framed and ready to hang, with a tag that identifies you as the artist, name of your work and contact information.  We have a variety of spaces available so most sizes can be accommodated. An opening reception is planned.

FIRE MITIGATION COMMITTEE

The Fire Mitigation Committee is pleased to announce that the Roxborough Park area has been chosen for Douglas County’s 2010 Wildland Urban Interface Fire Exercise, also known as the I-Drill. The I-Drill is an annual event for Douglas County and is an important part of evaluating and preparing emergency responders county wide. The exercise is scheduled for Saturday, April 10, 2010 with multiple fire and emergency responder agencies participating.

The drill is comprised of five components; structure protection, progressive hose lay, evacuation, mobile attack, and air operations (classroom). There will be approximately five strike teams of six to eight vehicles that will drill at each of these component stations. Although the exercise is still in the planning stages, some of the components will directly involve the Roxborough Park neighborhood. Steps will be taken to minimize traffic disruptions within the park.

There will be a planned evacuation for volunteering Roxborough Park residents. The evacuation route will be out Roxborough Park North, through Ravenna to Waterton Canyon. There will be a meeting point at Roxborough Elementary for evacuees set up by the Red Cross. Volunteering participants would then sign in at the evacuation center to simulate a real life event. At this time we do not have a sign up roster, but we will let you know when that information is available. For now, we would just like residents to spread the word that volunteer participation would be greatly appreciated in evaluating emergency procedures.

More information will be coming in the following months, including a presentation at the Annual Meeting on February 23, 2010 by Fran Santagata, Director of Emergency Management for Douglas County. Please stay tuned to Echoes and be sure to check your mail for additional materials regarding the drill. AFTER DECEMBER BOD MEETING

RAVENNA HOA COMPLIANCE REQUEST

The Ravenna Homeowners Master Association has contacted the Foundation office with another request for Roxborough residents not to trespass on Ravenna property. The Master Association believes that our residents are entering the golf course through the emergency ingress/egress points. All authorized emergency access points are marked with No Trespassing signs and all of Ravenna is private property. They have made it clear that if trespassing onto their property continues they will file trespass charges against those entering without authorization.

Please respect the private nature of the Ravenna subdivision. We should be fostering good relationships with our neighbors and continued use of their property without authorization does not contribute to that end.

Thank you for your cooperation!

ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITTEE

A Wealth of Environmental Info at Your Fingertips—The Roxborough Park Environmental Committee invites you to view its web page on the Roxborough Park web site. Here you will find a wealth of information that will help you help our community and our planet.

The newest item to be featured on the Environmental Committee’s web page is a PDF of the color brochure of The Ten Most unWanted Noxious Weeds in Roxborough Park, some of which may be making their return on your property in a few short months—after all that freezing white stuff goes away. In addition to this colorful and informative brochure that helps you identify those little nasties that uglify our community is the flyer on how to order one of the best tools for easily (well, more easily) removing those long-rooted little devils in your yard. The brochure was compiled by members of the Environmental Committee with the help of Douglas County Weed Inspector and President of the Colorado Weed Management Association, Jonathan Rife, who also endorses the weeder available on the web site.

Some of the other important information on the site includes a downloadable PDF of the magnetic recycling guide—of course, an actual magnetic recycling guide is available for free at the Recycling Center or the Community Center. This will help you sort out what you should sort out to reduce the amount of trash that goes into landfills. The Roxborough Park Recycling Program also helps save more than 10% on our trash removal, so we’re helping our bottom line, while helping the environment and making our community a better place to live.
