A message with link to video from Forestor, Keith Worley |

Below is a link to a YOUTUBE video of a brush fire in Reno. Keith Worley, Forestor and Consultant says, "[The Reno fire is] pretty spectacular to say the least. This shows how a standard suburban subdivision can be at risk... regarding the realities of wildfire behavior under high wind conditions." Check out the video with the following link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7nprYdLM9E There are other links to this same fire on YouTube and include reference to "Reno NV Ridgecrest House" and "Six Homes Destroyed in Reno Fire" that show camera shots from other angles. The Ridgecrest shot is from the street above. |

Roxborough Park Receives Prestigious Firewise Designation |
The Fire Mitigation Committee was recently recognized by the Colorado State Forest Service for completing all requirements so Roxborough Park is now officially designated a Firewise Community. The achievement is the realization of a goal first discussed by the Committee 5 years ago. As such, Roxborough Park is one of only eight Firewise Communities in all of Colorado. It means the community is continuously working to reduce the chance for wildfire and has emergency plans in place should a potential threat become real. | | |
Pictured above is Committee Chairman Dick Erdmann (grey vest) receiving a glass commemorative plaque from CSFS district forester Michael Hughes. Other committee members from left to right are residents Dick Hart and Ken Majeski, West Metro Fire Captain Steve Hildebrandt, resident Paul Day, professional forester Keith Worley and residentDavid Irwin. The photo was taken in front of a wild land fire brush truck at West Metro's Station #15 across from the entrance to Roxborough Park. |

YOUR FIRE MITIGATION EFFORTS CAN STILL BE USED TO MATCH OUR 2007 GRANT DOLLARS |
The Roxborough Park Fire Mitigation Committee requests you to record the time and money you spend on wildfire mitigation. The time a property owner spends mitigating his/her property or the amount a property owner pays someone else to mitigate his/her property can qualify for matching funds. The funds can be used for our community fire-mitigation programs such as: slash removal, creating firebreaks within the Park, mitigation along our access route, community education. Some years no matching funds are available, but we request that you log the time and money spent to enable the District to update our mitigation database. Neighborhood Brush Clearing Project Regarded as Successful |
The Totem Run neighborhood is safer in the event of wildfire thanks to a cooperative brush clearing project paid for by residents there. A total of 9 properties were treated during the summer with a machine called a “hydromulcher.” A follow-up assessment by West Metro Fire Rescue concludes a majority of the treated properties have lowered their “wildfire danger rating.” Totem resident David Irwin organized the treatment project. He believes the participating homeowners reduced their “fuel volume” by at least 50 percent. He says the feedback he’s received on the appearance of the project is largely positive. David reports nearby neighbors on Black Bear Run and Dakota Run are now in the process of organizing their own treatment project using the hydromulcher. For more information, call David Irwin at 303 973 8789. For the Full Article, click the read more link below: |
